Common Carp: (Cyprinus carpio)
 
Description

Native to Asia, yellow to golden brown or olive sides, white belly, scales have a dark spot at the bottom. Average side 18 inches and 5 lbs. Can reach well over 40 lbs. Close relative of the Koi fish.

Location and Habitat

Warm grassy areas in streams and lakes.

 

Reproduction

Spawns February to July by broadcasting eggs over rocky shorelines. Spawning adults splash along the shoreline.

Table Quality
Fair: Most find it fishy. Some people enjoy Carp when cooked properly. Remove dark meat and wash away all blood before cooking.
