Fished Ashurst on July 3rd, 2018 for the first time. The lake is a few feet low making the shore somewhat muddy with a lot of moss near the shore. It was a very windy day (the lake is so open) so we shore fished. Caught a number of trout mid-morning to noon including a couple of large trout in the 15"+ range. Power Bait is the ticket for shore fishing. It's so dry and warm that the lake and camping wasn't at all busy. I'd love to find more information on the lake topography. It seems to be a rather shallow body of water. Old reports that supplies can be purchased there are no longer valid. Bring what what you need. The 4 mile drive in off FR3 isn't too bad, just really dusty. Since Blue Ridge Reservoir IMG_0811.jpg near our cabin is closed as is the entire forest so we can't get to the rim lakes, I'll be back to Ashurst a couple more times this summer.

The road to Ashurst Lake remains closed and is very muddy and there are some heavy snow drifts.
