your favorite spots in the Phoenix East Valley

Hi all, New to this site, so glad to find it. For the most part, I've been fishing the East Valley's fishing areas (i.e. Desert Breeze, Veterans Oasis a bit, McQueen Pond, and the ASU research park lakes....the summer affords me some extra time, so I wanted to get input as to what areas are worth visiting here in the East Valley....doesn't matter, lakes, ponds, canals around Tempe, Chandler,...

Why so much effort stocking trout at desert lakes and rivers?

Maybe I'm the only one that thinks this but it seems like the game and fish department is pushing trout fishing too much. Was just reading this article that says "According to the state Game and Fish Department (AZGF), Colorado River stakeholders have expressed interest in reducing bag limits for the region’s trout because of an increase in the fish’s popularity among Arizona and Nevada...

Why are the Black River Permits not 24 hours

Why is it that you go the San Carlos res and buy a permit for the day and it expires at midnight? That sucks. That means you have to buy one for the morning you leave to. It wouldn't be a big deal if they were less than 20 dollars a day. Is this right or do I have it backwards?

where to fish on black river that is non reservation

I'm semi new to fishing, only a couple years under my belt and I mostly fish canyon lake or the salt river. I'm looking for a new spot to fish for better chances to catch and bigger size as well. I have been told about the black river but I don't know if its reservation or costs a fee. If any free spots are on the black river I'd like to know. And I know honey holes are kind of your own but if...

What gear do I need? Total beginner

Hello I've been an Arizona resident my whole life - 27 years. I have also never been fishing and would like to start fishing. I live in Tucson and mostly my connection with the outdoors comes from backpack and hunting, both of which I started late in life as an adult a few years ago. Now I think it is time to get a little taste for fishing. I don't think I'd have the schedule to be a...

Video: Striper fishing at Lake Pleasant

This trip at Lake Pleasant we got into a better school of 2 - 4 pound stripers and also got one nice crappie. These stripers are super fun to catch and will put and bend in your rod and make your drag sing on light line. [MEDIA]

    Urban Lakes

I am trying to find new places to fish. I recently have been going to Tempe Town Lake and fishing the north bank by the Light Rail Bridge. It seems to be very spotty, not to mention I hate that if you are fishing from the bank you are so high up. I am going to try and fish a couple of the urban lakes and see what I can find. I prefer to go after bass. Does anyone have any suggestions? I was...

Video Tubing the Salt River and Fishing at the same time.

Just fyi, if you haven't though of it, you can go to the lower Salt River and get the bus and bring your own tube and pole and fish + get drunk with the rest of the tuber. This was a few years back, I brought my own tube I picked up at Big5. If was still pretty cold in spring. [MEDIA]

Tips Needed! Trolling in Rim Lakes

Hoping to get some advice for fishing from a boat in the Mogollon Rim Lakes (Willow Springs, Woods Canyon). I can't catch anything between June and August! I have had good success catching trout in Woods Canyon and Willow Springs Lakes during the late Spring season when trolling from my boat. I've used cowbells, spinners, and crickhoppers, sometimes with a worm or some powerbait on the end....

    Thai fishing traps

Saw these cool fishing traps for sale in Thailand. Looks like a good diy project if you have some old nets and water bottles. Basically you cut the tops off the water bottles, glue them to each side of the trap, and leave enough net at the top to close it off and reopen it when you catch some shad. [ATTACH]
