  • Lynx Lake is one of the most popular recreation areas in central Arizona. Mild weather, the cool ponderosa pine forest, a serene 55-acre lake, trout fishing, boating, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, archaeological sites, and bird watching attract visitors from throughout Arizona, and bring them back again and again.

    Arizona State Game and Fish Department periodically stocks the lake with rainbow trout. A State of Arizona fishing license and trout stamp are required for anglers age 14 and over. Largemouth bass and crappie are also present in the lake. The lake is open all year. Bag limits are 6 trout per day; 6 bass per day; and unlimited on crappie. - Prescott National Forest

    Lynx also can be an exciting place to fish for carp. Common carp are very strong fighters and will provide excellent table fair. A quick search on the internet will produce tasty recipes for these robust fish. Corn and an assortment of other baits will attract these fish. Lynx can be difficult to fish, if you are not catching anything try moving to a new spot.

    The latest rainbow trout stocking was January 30th. Catchable Brown Trout were stocked September 6th and catfish were stocked the week of September 22nd. Change baits if you are not having any luck and move down the shore a few hundred feet. Rob reports that the morning bite is best and limits can be caught in the 20 degree air temps. Later in the morning the trout move to the 14-35 feet in depth. Try yellow colored power bait or power eggs for trout if the spinners don’t work. The gold colored Super Duper is a distant second. Night crawlers are always good bait that can work on most fish.

    Brandon R. of Surprise: Fished Lynx on Sunday, Jan 8. Lake level is high. Excess water has been running over the spillway for the last 5 days.
    Fishing off the bank is limited due to water level. Found a nice point to fish from. Water clarity is medium to low visibility. Used PowerBait Nuggets in chartreuse glitter and rainbow on about a 3 foot leader.
    Have to cast toward the center, as the trout are in deeper water.
    Caught 10 rainbows in a 6-hour period, with an average length of 12-16 inches. Very surprised, as change in water levels tend to throw off the bite there. Will wait until levels recede a bit to have more options of where to fish. All in all, a very good day of fishing!

    i have fished there many times and have heard from the rangers that the lake only contains rainbow trout and channel catfish.

    CORRECTION

    Lynx campground consists of 35 sites and has been on the reservation system since April 1, 2013. reservations are advised for weekends and busy holidays. Drive-in parties are limited to two days stay without a reservation.
