    Hello

I've been an Arizona resident my whole life - 27 years. I have also never been fishing and would like to start fishing. I live in Tucson and mostly my connection with the outdoors comes from backpack and hunting, both of which I started late in life as an adult a few years ago. Now I think it is time to get a little taste for fishing.

I don't think I'd have the schedule to be a fisherman year round, but I would like the opportunity to go a few times to half a dozen times throughout the year. After reading John Gierach, fly-fishing sounds wonderful although it seems that those opportunities are more abundant in the northern half of the state. I'm not opposed to spin casting (is that the right terminology?) - far from it, and I realize that I think that would give me more opportunity in the southern half of the state?

Anyway- what is the bare minimum I would need as far as gear that would allow me to cast a line and get a feel for fishing in Arizona? It'd be easiest for me to stay in southern Arizona although I have family in the Prescott area and like getting up there when I can. So far I've gotten a little lost in all the terminology, it's all very new to me.

Thanks in advance for the input.

Well, I'd say just get some bass fishing equipment, Tucson has good bass fishing. Catfish is everywhere, if you want to do some bait fishing. I'd say using real worms is like the universal bait, can catch anything on those: bass, catfish, crappie, trout.

I also started fishing around your age. Now I've been fishing for 15 years! Get a baitcasting reel. You might also want to invest in some hip waders. I found them really useful over my years of fishing. Id highly recommend the tidewe hip wader or the fishingsir hip waders. Good luck and stay safe!

I also started fishing around two years ago. When I was a beginner so I followed only some professional anglers! During my learning I found best beginner's picks here baitcasting reel. I usually use worms which performs very well in my case, It helps me a lot for bass fishing, Catfish, Northern Pike. I would recommend you to use it.
