Fishing Cataract Lake Arizona

Only two miles from Williams, 35-acre Cataract Lake is one of the area's least known, least used fisheries. To get to Cataract, take I-40 west out of Flagstaff toward Williams. Turn north at Exit 161. It's very close to the interstate.

Cataract Lake stands at an elevation of 6,800 feet, and with an average depth of only 12 feet, it periodically suffers a winter freeze. The lake's maximum depth is 25 feet and has 1.5 miles of shoreline.

The lake was created in 1947 when the city of Williams put a forty-foot-high dirt dam on Cataract Creek to provide a steady water supply. -G.J. Sagi, from the travel handbook Fishing Arizona
