  • Christopher Creek is the ideal getaway for those of us who enjoy a true flyfishing outing once in a while. It's ideally located northeast of Payson, far away from civilization's hectic pace.

Perhaps the area's only drawback is its vulnerability to droughts, like the recent severe dry spell during which many streams-including Christopher Creek-have at times literally gone dry. Always call ahead to check conditions.

Fishable water runs from an elevation of more than 6,500 feet to below 5,200. The water is rugged in sections, but well worth the effort, Though you probably won't come away with the lunker of a lifetime, you will experience some of Arizona's truly pristine out-of-doors-all within a mile of one of the most traveled roads on the Mogollon Rim. -G.J. Sagi, from the travel handbook Fishing Arizona

I have a summer home in Christopher Creek, See Canyon Summer Homes. It was built by my parents in 1941. Just recently, a subdivision to the north of us, THE BROOKS, have claimed that they OWN THE PART OF CHRISTOPHER CREEK THAT RUNS THROUGH THEIR SUBDIVISION. They are complaining about fishermen using THEIR creek and therefore trespassing. My understanding is that an INDIVIDUAL CANNOT OWN PART OF A WATERWAY SUCH AS CHRISTOPHER CREEK, and that the PUBLIC is allowed to "fish the waters" as they wish. Can you clarify this for me?
