  • Topock Marsh on the Havasu National Wildlife Refuge will be closed Feb. 20 thru March 6 due to U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service management action.

Topock Marsh is a Colorado River special use permit area. Arizona fishing license holders don't need a stamp while fishing on the marsh; however, California fishermen must purchase a Colorado River special use stamp with their California fishing license for fishing marsh waters and shorelines.

The closed portion of Topock Marsh is closed to all access (including fishing) from October 1st until the end of the state waterfowl season, including the youth waterfowl hunt. Closed area signs and buoys mark the area.

Topock Marsh has bass, crappie, catfish, and carp. Three sites offer boat access to the marsh: North Dike, Five Mile Landing, and Catfish Paradise. There is no fee to use the boat launches; however, there is no access from Topock Marsh into the lower Colorado River channel.
    • North Dike: Marks the northern boundary of the marsh where water diverted from the Colorado River enters the marsh. North Dike offers a boat launch as well as shoreline fishing from the dike.
    • Five Mile Landing: Has a boat launch with some fishing from its shorelines. A no wake zone exists in the harbor of Five Mile Landing.
    • Catfish Paradise: Has a universally accessible fishing pier and boat launch as well as a non-water bathroom facility and a small picnic area.

After March 6, try chicken livers or worms for catfish. You can access the marsh by boat at the North Dike, Catfish Paradise, and Five-Mile Landing. The cold weather has slowed the bite and access to the marsh is difficult due to low water levels. For more information on the marsh, contact the Havasu National Wildlife Refuge at (760) 326-3853 or go to http://www.fws.gov/southwest/refuges/arizona/havasu/index.html.

The cold weather has slowed the bite and access to the marsh is difficult due to low water levels. The last report I received said that launching at North Dike was extremely difficult. There is not enough water in the marsh to launch a boat
Maybe a canoe. When are they going to let some water in.

Wish I could tell ya. I'd like to head out that way. I've never fished there. Good place for largemouth?
