  • Silver Creek is a 45-mile-long stream located in the White Mountains north of Show Low. It is a tributary of the Little Colorado River. It's know for producing large trout and a popular fly fishing spot. Be sure and check current regulations before going out since it's often catch and release and artificial lures or flies only.

Fishing is good. Current regulations are catch and release with artificial flies and lures with single barbless hooks only. A protozoan infection called “Ich” hit rainbow trout in Silver Creek in October, causing significant stress, some mortalities of trout, and poor fishing, however, that bout of infection has passed. Fishing is good! This stream is ice free all year round.

By: Max Wilson The upper portion of Silver Creek fished great over the weekend. People were doing really well on egg patterns and small midges. One of my buddies even managed to pull out this big guy on a Tenkara Rod– not bad for his first fish on the fly!

The best fishing is on 2 miles of Arizona Game and Fish property at the upper end of Silver Creek. From Show Low, take Hwy 60 east towards Springerville for 5 miles, then turn north/left on Bordon Ranch Road. Drive 5 miles on Bordon Ranch Road, then turn right/east on Hatchery Road. The parking area is a quarter mile straight in on Hatchery Road, just past a couple of hatchery residence houses. The lower 1.5 miles of stream is open year round for fishing, but is split into 2 seasons, a winter catch and release season from October 1 through March 30 every year (artificial fly and lure with single barbless hooks is required during the catch and release season), and a summer season. Bait and a 6 trout daily bag limit are legal during the summer season from April 1 through September 31. Note that the upper 0.5 miles is only open to fishing during the winter catch and release season. It is closed to entry during the summer season because of its close proximity to the Silver Creek Hatchery at Silver Creek spring. The stream is stocked weekly during the summer season and is a great time to visit with the family, including small children.
