The striper bite is picking up along the Colorado River.
That’s the word from Rusty Braun, proprietor of Riviera Marina in Bullhead City and provider of area fishing news for the Mohave Valley Daily News, the Arizona Game and Fish Department and the Nevada Department of Wildlife.

“Anchovies are the bait of choice and from shore or from boat, is producing some nice catches.”
The Romero family — Chiwy, Tury, Chiman and Pelon — brought in seven stripers fishing from the shore on the river ne¡ar Davis Dam. And of course they were using anchovies.
“Now this is a happy group and they were having fun,” Braun said.
Dave Ensrud also used anchovies — he was dragging the bait on the river on his boat — and pulled in four nice stripers. The largest was a tad over 4 pounds and measured 241/2 inches.
While stripers are ruling the day on the river proper, other species are being found elsewhere.
“Up on Lake Mohave, the smallmouth bite is picking up,” Braun said. “Plastics are the way to go. The colors that I last heard were purple with flakes or a pumpkin with green flakes.
“The shelves are sure to produce a few in the 2- to 3-pound range.”
And stripers are also being caught on the lake.
