Hello I've been an Arizona resident my whole life - 27 years. I have also never been fishing and would like to start fishing. I live in Tucson and mostly my connection with the outdoors comes from backpack and hunting, both of which I started late in life as an adult a few years ago. Now I think it is time to get a little taste for fishing. I don't think I'd have the schedule to be a fisherman year round, but I would like the opportunity to go a few times to half a dozen times throughout the year. After reading John Gierach, fly-fishing sounds wonderful although it seems that those opportunities are more abundant in the northern half of the state. I'm not opposed to spin casting (is that the right terminology?) - far from it, and I realize that I think that would give me more opportunity in the southern half of the state? Anyway- what is the bare minimum I would need as far as gear that would allow me to cast a line and get a feel for fishing in Arizona? It'd be easiest for me to stay in southern Arizona although I have family in the Prescott area and like getting up there when I can. So far I've gotten a little lost in all the terminology, it's all very new to me. Thanks in advance for the input.
